FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a method for producing 1,4-butanediol and tetrahydrofuran, which are valuable chemical compounds used in industry as solvents and in the production of elastic fibers. Method involves bringing furan into contact with hydrogen and water in the presence of a catalytic composition supported on a substrate containing rhenium and palladium in the total mass content of at least 1:1, while the total mass content of rhenium and palladium in the catalytic composition is from 0.01 to 20 wt. %.
EFFECT: proposed method allows to obtain the target products without the formation of a large amount of n-butanol as a by-product.
