METHOD FOR TREATING PROGRESSIVE HYDROCEPHALY IN CHILDREN Russian patent published in 2020 - IPC A61B17/00

Abstract RU 2721455 C1

FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, in particular to neurosurgery. Ventriculo-subarachnoid drainage is performed by means of ventricular drainage and a pump with a perforated base. Pump is installed in milling hole with expansion of locking cuff in subarachnoid space. Pump is fixed by anchoring along trepanation edges. That is followed by a temporary outflow of liquor from the pump through a fragment of the distal drainage into a subgaleal pocket. Then physiologic saline is introduced through pump canopy with control of its outflow into subarachnoid space and ventricles according to intraoperative neurosonography. Method comprises re-introducing physiological solution through a pump and performing an active sanation of the subarachnoid space and ventricles, and with passive withdrawal of liquor through subgaleal pocket in complex with lumbar punctures on 3–5, 7, 10, 14 days and at end of 3, 4, 5 and 6 weeks after operation. If hydrocephaly progresses, the pump is connected through a distal drainage with a peritoneal shunt for liquor discharge into the abdominal cavity without further replacement and reinstallation of the system.

EFFECT: method enables recovering liquorodynamics accompanying progressive hydrocephaly in children, improving clinical effectiveness and reducing the number of peritoneal shunting operations.
