SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an aerosol-generating system comprising a capsule comprising a reservoir for containing an aerosol-generating substrate; and an evaporation unit configured to detachably connect to the capsule, wherein the evaporation unit comprises a housing, a liquid transfer member disposed in the housing, and a heating element arranged in the housing and configured to heat the liquid in the liquid transfer member, the housing having a proximal end, and wherein at least a portion of the liquid transfer member extends beyond the proximal end of the housing, wherein the evaporation unit is configured such that the liquid transfer element is a first portion of the evaporation unit which penetrates into the capsule reservoir as the distal end of the capsule moves towards the proximal end of the evaporation unit; and wherein the evaporation unit further comprises a retractable protective shell arranged around the portion of the liquid transfer member that extends beyond the proximal end of the housing.
EFFECT: technical result is providing an aerosol.
