FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to a liquid supply system for use with an aerosol-generating device, a cartridge and an embodiment of the aerosol-generating system. Liquid supply system for use with an aerosol-generating device comprises a liquid retaining material, a liquid flow channel extending from the liquid retaining material, and a barrier located in the liquid flow channel. Barrier has a threshold temperature of 60 °C to 120 °C. Barrier is impermeable for liquid at temperature below its threshold temperature, and barrier becomes reversibly permeable for liquid at temperature above its threshold temperature. Barrier layer is made of material forming holes during or after formation of barrier layer, wherein holes can be opened and closed in temperature-dependent manner by various mechanisms, including swelling, shrinkage and deformation of chains. It is possible to prevent premature leakage of the aerosol-forming substrate from the cartridge.

EFFECT: enabling transfer of the aerosol-forming liquid substrate to the heating element and into the air flow channel using the aerosol-generating system.
