FIELD: industrial production of nitric acid.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing nitric acid, a reactor for catalytic oxidation of ammonia, intended for subsequent production of nitric acid, and a method of converting a reactor, intended for catalytic oxidation of ammonia, which is part of process unit intended for production of nitric acid. Method includes step of ammonia oxidation in presence of catalyst, wherein it includes a temperature monitoring stage of said catalyst using at least one non-contact infrared radiation sensor (16). Reactor (1) includes high-pressure vessel (10) and basket with catalyst (14), said catalyst-containing basket comprises catalyst (2), suitable for ammonia oxidation, wherein it includes at least one said sensor (16), adapted for temperature measurement of said catalyst.

EFFECT: technical result consists in sufficient ammonia oxidation for subsequent production of nitric acid.
