FIELD: data processing.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to means of generating a number in a signed decimal format signed format. Command is received by a processor for execution, which is a decimal number download command with direct addressing to generate a number in the signed decimal format signed for use in processing in a computing environment, wherein control element is interconnected by sign control element to be used to provide sign of number in sign with packed decimal format to be generated by command. Control element is received by sign. Binary coded decimal input value is obtained from the command field. Validity of binary coded decimal input value is checked. Performing based on verification result indicating binary coded decimal input value permissibility, shifting a binary-coded decimal input value in a given direction by a command to a selected value to provide a result. Result is placed in first designated location in register. Sign based on the sign control element is included in the second designated location of the register, wherein the result and the sign provide a number in the signed decimal format, which is to be used when processing in a computing environment.
EFFECT: technical result is to reduce the use of memory bandwidth.
