FIELD: nuclear equipment.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to nuclear engineering and can be used for decontamination of radionuclide-contaminated metal surfaces of nuclear power plants. Method of decontamination of metal surfaces of articles, consisting in heating of surface layer, local fusion of deactivated surface and removal of radioactive material by evaporation and extrusion of molten metal, is characterized by that the deactivation process is carried out in a vacuum in the pressure range from 1 Pa to 300 Pa due to energy localized in the cathode spots of the vacuum-arc discharge moving between the article and the cathode and the anode.
EFFECT: invention enables to create a dry method for decontamination of metal surfaces without using process fluids.
