FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods for chemical decontamination of metal with surface contamination with radionuclides. Method of decontamination of surface contaminated articles from metal alloys or their fragments consists in application on deactivated surface of powdered reagent containing potassium, sodium and sulfur, further heating of surface, its cooling by treatment of surface with liquid nitrogen in amount of at least 260 g per 1 kg of treated surface and cleaning of surface from formed scale.
EFFECT: invention prevents volatilization of cesium during decontamination by providing RSM abrupt cooling after the heating step.
