SUBSTANCE: invention relates to overload protection device of overvoltage protection devices consisting of at least one surge protector of type II with thermal separator operated in case of overload or without it. According to the invention, to the at least one overvoltage surge arrester, a switching device structurally connected to it is connected in series, in which there are no movable contacts, and which comprises at least two fixed switching contacts located at a small distance from each other, wherein said distance between said switching contacts is set such that, in each process of generation of shock current or discharge due to formed electric arc, switching device changes into quasi-closed state, while in the absence of overload, on the contrary, the applied mains voltage drops on the switching device, due to which leakage current leakage through the series-connected surge arrester is absent.

EFFECT: technical result is the possibility of continuous adjustment for all cases of overload and failure and at the same time ensure that the overvoltage protection discharger in normal operation, not associated with the protective function, is not subjected to aging-causing load.
