FIELD: information technology.

SUBSTANCE: device relates to the field of information technologies implemented using surface electromagnetic waves (SEW) of infrared and terahertz ranges. Device comprises a radiation source with a flat wave front, a polarization converter which emits radial polarization to radiation, circular phase diffraction grating, converting flat wave into superposition of flat waves conically converging to its optical axis, and conductor, end of which is oriented perpendicular to radiation incidence plane. Part of cylindrical surface of conductor contains echelette, which strokes are perpendicular to the plane of incidence and have an inclination, which ensures the coincidence of the directivity pattern of the first diffraction maximum with the cylindrical surface of the conductor. Radiation falls on echelette at calculated angle ϕ, providing equality of tangential component of wave vector of radiation to wave vector of SEW.

EFFECT: high efficiency of converting monochromatic infrared or terahertz radiation into a surface electromagnetic wave on a cylindrical conductor.
