FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention is used for deflecting a beam of surface plasmon polaritons. The essence of the invention lies in the fact that the device for deflecting a beam of surface plasmon polaritons includes a generator of surface plasmon-polaritons, a conducting metal substrate with dielectric inhomogeneity located on it in the form of periodically sequential microparticles with a refractive index varying in the range of 1.6-2.2, with thickness equal to λ0, with height varying in the range of (0.05-0.155)λ0 where λ0 is the radiation wavelength in vacuum and the microparticles are sequentially located one after the other in the direction of propagation of surface plasmon polaritons at a distance of about 2.5λ0. The microparticles form directly a "photonic hook" on their shadow side or sequentially located microparticles forming directly on their shadow side a "photonic hook" and a "photonic jet" alternate with one another.
EFFECT: ensuring the possibility of deflecting the beam of surface plasmon polaritons while maintaining their subwavelength focusing as well as reducing the size of the device.
