FIELD: power engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to plasma power engineering, to current modulation and can be used in development of radiation-resistant high-temperature plasma electronics for space and ground nuclear power plants, systems of environmental anti-radiation protection, when creating low-voltage high-current circuits on objects of mineral-raw material complex during processing of radioactive minerals. Method of gridless current modulation in unstable mode of discharge combustion includes selection of gas component pressure from condition λe>d and discharge combustion in collisionless mode. Discharge is ignited in pairs of binary cesium-barium mixture, wherein size of interelectrode gap should be greater than 1, then in plasma excited electronic Bursian-Pierce instability and forming virtual cathode, modulating current, formation of which occurs during time of electrons path through gap, and then controlling the modulation process, wherein the discharge current level is controlled in range of 1 to 10 A/cm2 by changing the load resistance R, and in the range of from 10 to 20 A/cm2 by changing the emitter temperature, the change in the current amplitude and the time and the locked state of the conductive regulation value is carried EMF source E and the interelectrode gap d.
EFFECT: possibility of providing completely controlled gridless modulation of current with density of up to 20 A/cm2 with frequency of 5–20 kHz.
