FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, particularly to dentistry and neurology, and can be used for treating hypertension of lateral pterygoid muscle. That is ensured by preliminary magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of a temporomandibular joint (TMJ). Distance from the base of the tragus of the auricle is determined to the prick-in point at a projection level on the skin of the anterior edge of the lateral pole of the mandible head. Distance to the fusion of the upper and lower heads of the lateral pterygoid muscle and their attachment to the articular disc, the TMJ capsule and the pterygoid fossa of the lower jaw are also measured. Lateral pole of the mandible is palpated. Injection is performed under electromyographic (EMG) control by puncturing skin at its front edge at a point and moving the needle in the direction and the distance set at TMJ MRI. Botulinum toxin preparation is then introduced at the fusion of the upper and lower heads of the lateral pterygoid muscle.

EFFECT: invention enables eliminating pain syndrome accompanying lateral pterygoid hypertension in a patient.
