SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing L-methionine. Method comprises culturing a microorganism, which is Escherichia coli, characterized by L-homoserine-O-acetyl transferase activity and O-acetyl-L-homoserine sulfhydrylase activity, in a culture medium containing L-homoserine and a sulfur source selected from a group, consisting of methyl mercaptan and methyl mercaptan salt. As a result, L-methionine accumulates in the culture medium.
EFFECT: invention enables to obtain L-methionine in a microorganism, wherein acetate formed by conversion of O-acetyl-L-homoserine to L-methionine is substantially reused by the same microorganism.
