FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy. Molten metal is supplied from a chute to an ingot mould with direct cooling to form an upright ingot having its upper surface at the specified height. After casting is finished, the molten metal flow is stopped while heat is maintained in the metal inside the chute and the metal supplied to the chute in order to keep the metal in molten state until the next supply through the chute. Formation of partial shrinkage cavity in the upper ingot surface is provided. The partial shrinkage cavity is partially filled preventing complete or strong run-out of the molten metal from the shrinkage cavity. The above stages are repeated. The chute is removed so that not to contact with the molten metal of the ingot and cooling of all ingot parts is provided down to the temperature under which the metal is completely solid.
EFFECT: elimination of shrinkage cavity and improved quality of cast ingot.
