METHOD OF RECOVERING FUNCTIONAL CAPABILITIES OF HUMAN MUSCLES IN CONDITIONS OF REDUCING MOTOR ACTIVITY IN THE ELDERLY AND PATIENTS WITH CHRONIC CARDIAC FAILURE Russian patent published in 2020 - IPC A61N1/36

Abstract RU 2729932 C1

FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, namely to rehabilitation, and can be used for restoration of functional capabilities of human muscles. Course of several training procedures is conducted. Each procedure consists of two sessions of electrostimulation of muscular apparatus of lower extremities, the first of which is designed to increase muscle tonus, and the second one – to increase muscular strength and weight. That is ensured by applying electrodes on skin surface along projections of groups of anterior and posterior muscles of thighs and shins so that current-conducting medium is formed in contact zone. Each stimulated group of muscles is covered with two electrodes, one electrode is applied on the distal one-third of the muscle group, and the second electrode is applied on the proximal one-third of the muscle group. First session of electric stimulation is performed simultaneously on all groups of muscles of both extremities by supplying to electrodes of bipolar symmetrical rectangular electric pulses with duration of 1±0.05 ms with frequency of 25±1 Hz in a cyclic mode with stimulation for 1±0.1 s and pause for 2±0.1 s. Amplitude of said pulses is selected for each patient on the basis of individual tolerance, gradually increasing it during the session. Amplitude of pulses is adjusted separately for each limb, achieving equal force of muscle contraction in both extremities. Absence of motion in joints of extremities is controlled. Second electrical stimulation session is carried out by feeding electric pulses with amplitude modulation onto the electrodes, where the carrier frequency is 2,500±50 Hz, frequency of sinusoidal modulating voltage is 50±10 Hz; duration of each series of pulses is 10±2 s, duration of pauses between series is 50±7 s. At the same time muscular groups of shins of both extremities are initially stimulated, and then – hips of both extremities. First session is performed during the first half of day for 30–45 minutes, and the second session is performed during 10–25 minutes, setting the interval between the first session and the second session for at least two hours.

EFFECT: method provides higher effectiveness of stimulating action aimed at weakened muscles of lower extremities, under condition of avoiding muscular overload due to two-stage action on muscles.
