FIELD: hydro acoustics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of hydroacoustics and is intended for determining the distance to an object noisy in the sea. Noise hydroacoustic signal of marine object is investigated, comparing it with forecast signal generated for set of assumed distances to object by determination of correlation coefficient. Analyzing the main and several local maxima of the dependence of the correlation coefficient on the assumed distance, several hypotheses are formed on the distance. Simultaneously several successive directions are measured on the object. For each distance hypothesis, the estimated tangential velocity component of the object is determined. As an estimate of the distance to the object, the hypothesis on the distance is selected, for which the value of the tangential velocity component does not exceed the maximum possible speed of movement of the real object.
EFFECT: exclusion of displacement error when determining distance to object in conditions of zonal structure of acoustic field.
