SUBSTANCE: group of inventions can be used in production of paper coatings, cosmetic products, food packages. Method of treating calcium carbonate with modified surface comprises providing calcium carbonate with modified surface, which is a reaction product of natural ground calcium carbonate or precipitated calcium carbonate with carbon dioxide and one or more H3O+ ion donors. Providing a treatment agent selected from a group consisting of ascorbic acid and/or salts thereof, gallic acid and/or salts thereof, unsaturated fatty acids and/or salts thereof, elemental iron, salts of iron (II), oxides containing iron (II), oxides containing iron (II, III), and their mixtures. Calcium carbonate is combined with modified surface and agent for treatment in one or more stages at temperature from 10 to 200 °C while stirring. Group of inventions also relates to treated calcium carbonate with a modified surface and its use as an oxygen absorber.

EFFECT: invention increases oxygen uptake with calcium carbonate.
