FIELD: lifting devices.

SUBSTANCE: invention discloses a system for online monitoring of formation of cracks on a spindle of a lifting mechanism and a method of monitoring formation of cracks. System consists of a cable tensioning unit, a crack detection unit, a wireless data transmission unit and a computer. Power unit of rope tension consists of two traction cables, two guide wheels, two step electric motors and two drives of step electric motors. Crack detection unit consists of a guide rail of a spiral tubular spring, a sliding part and an ultrasonic transducer. Wireless data transmission unit comprises three ZigBee-modules of wireless sensors. ZigBee-modules receive commands from the computer and send commands to drives of step electric motors for control over rotation of these electric motors. Step motors drive the guide wheels to wind the ropes so that the sliding part starts to slide along the guide rail of the spiral tubular spring.

EFFECT: technical result is effective control of spindle of lifting mechanism before failure, which enables to avoid industrial accidents.
