SUBSTANCE: invention relates to encoding / decoding, in particular to encoding in intra-mode of high efficiency video signal coding (HEVC) standard. Disclosed is output of reference values of prediction mode, also called most probable modes (MPM), which are used to encode / decode prediction mode associated with current coding element. First and second prediction mode reference values are output from respective prediction modes of at least two neighboring coding elements of current coding element. First and second reference prediction modes differ from each other, and the third prediction mode reference value is derived from the prediction mode first and second reference values. By outputting three MPMs instead of two for comparison with prediction mode of current encoding unit, encoding efficiency is improved, since there is an increase in the probability that the prediction mode of the current coding unit corresponds to one of the derived most probable modes.

EFFECT: high efficiency of encoding / decoding information on prediction modes.
