FIELD: video encoding/decoding.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to means for video encoding and decoding. An internal prediction mode is selected for the current block, using an encoding device. The selected internal prediction mode is encoded using the encoding device, using truncated binary encoding. In this case, all internal prediction modes belong either to a list of the most probable modes (hereinafter – MPM) or to remaining modes. There are 6 modes in MPM list and 61 mode in remaining modes, and all remaining modes are encoded using truncated binary encoding, while encoding uses 5 bites, when the selected internal prediction mode is one of the first three modes of remaining modes, and 6 bits, when the internal prediction mode is beyond the mentioned first three modes.
EFFECT: increase in the efficiency of video encoding.
