SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the computer equipment. Method of decoding coding units from a bit stream of video data comprises: determining division of a unit of a given size into coding and prediction units; decoding, if current coding unit is divided into prediction units, arithmetically coded flags for each of said prediction units in current coding unit, the flag indicating usage of the specific internal prediction mode; decoding if the current coding unit is divided into prediction units encoded with data bypass for each prediction unit in the current one coding unit after decoding all arithmetic coded flags for each prediction unit in the current one coding unit; determining internal prediction modes for prediction units according to flags; and decoding the encoding unit from the bit stream using the determined mode.

EFFECT: increasing the efficiency of encoding/decoding the bit stream of video data.
