FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a method of producing a halogenated diene-containing (co)polymer, a modified diene-containing (co)polymer and use of a modified diene-containing (co)polymer. This method includes the following stages: a) halogenating a diene-containing (co)polymer solution in an organic solvent to form a reaction mass containing a halogenated diene-containing (co)polymer in an organic solvent, as well as a vapour-gas mixture containing a solvent and an excess amount of unreacted halogen; b) neutralizing the reaction mass obtained at step (a), followed by separation of the aqueous and organic layers, where the aqueous layer contains water, a residual amount of a neutralizing agent and, optionally, a solvent, and the organic layer contains a halogenated diene-containing (co)polymer and a solvent; c) depositing organic layer obtained at step (b) to separate target product - halogenated diene-containing (co)polymer, followed by filtration and drying of precipitated product; and d) neutralizing excess amount of unreacted halogen from vapour-gas mixture from step (a) by passing said vapour-gas mixture through residual water layer obtained at step (b), residual amounts of neutralizing agent and, optionally, solvent. Modified diene-containing (co)polymer is used as a flame retardant (antipyrene) for polymer compositions based on foamed polystyrene.

EFFECT: technical result is the development of an inexpensive and simple method of producing a halogenated diene-containing (co)polymer, suitable for use in industry, in which effective removal of excess unreacted halogen from vapour-gas mixture formed during halogenation is provided.
