SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of radio communication. Operation of mobile device (201, 203, 205, 207, 209, 303, 501), comprising main receiver (507) and wake-up receiver (509) is provided by performing periodic attempts to receive (401) first signal (S2, S4), which is configured for reception by wake-up receiver (509). At each attempt (i), a detection result is generated (403), which indicates whether the first signal has been received with a signal quality which satisfies a given criterion of minimum quality. One or more detection results are used (405) as a base to determine whether awakening receiver (509) is within the range of access point (211, 301, 801). Operation of mobile device (201, 203, 205, 207, 209, 303, 501) is controlled (413) in response to determination (407) that wake up receiver (509) is not within range of point (211, 301, 801) access.

EFFECT: technical result is minimization of power consumption of mobile devices.
