FIELD: electrical equipment.

SUBSTANCE: field of application: electrical equipment. Arrester for lightning protection elements of electrical equipment or power transmission line comprises discharge device (arc quenching device), high-voltage electrode, low-voltage electrode and external process spark gap, serving for connection of discharger to high-voltage network, which is formed between high-voltage electrode of discharger, and electrode of high-voltage network, as well as protective gap formed between low-voltage electrode connected to low-voltage part of arc-extinguishing device, and high-voltage electrode. Protective gap is formed so that its discharge channel develops between electrode spot, from which discharge develops at connection of arc-quenching device to high-voltage network, and low-voltage electrode. Due to the fact that at operation of process gap between electrodes at end of electrode formed molten metal spot and in space nearby plasma conductive cloud, favourable conditions for breakdown of protective gap. It breaks at relatively low voltage, which is considerably less than discharge voltage of protective gap of known design between cold electrodes.

EFFECT: technical result is protection of discharger connected through gap from hazardous currents.
