FIELD: printing equipment.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of checking printing cylinder (1) for defects in an engraved cylindrical surface (3) of printing cylinder (1), comprising steps of: filming of first and at least one next digital image of cylindrical surface (3) of printing cylinder (1) by means of optical recording device (4), before performing at least one next shooting, cylindrical surface (3) is cleaned, comparing digital images with digital engraving pattern on printing cylinder (1), wherein comparison includes: detecting deviations between, respectively, one of the digital images and the digital engraving sample, and checking for detected deviations for coinciding deviations between the digital images, wherein the presence of the pseudodefect is stated, if no coinciding deviations between digital images have been established during comparison, and at concurring deviations conclusion on presence of engraving defect on printing cylinder (1) is made. Besides, corresponding plant is described.

EFFECT: method of checking a printing cylinder and a corresponding apparatus are disclosed.
