FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a method of producing spheroidal polymer beads and methods of producing spheroidal agarose beads. Method of producing spheroidal polymer beads having a volume-average particle diameter of 10 to 180 mcm involves the steps of: preparation of an apparatus which includes a metal membrane, where the first volume is in contact with the first side of the membrane and the second volume is in contact with the second side of the membrane; dispersing a first volume via through holes into a second volume under conditions sufficient to form a plurality of monomer droplets containing a polymerisable monomer, where shearing force is created at point of output of first volume to second volume, direction of shift is substantially perpendicular to direction of output of first volume, and shearing force is created by movement of membrane relative to second volume; hardening of agarose drops in mineral oil with formation of agarose beads. Metal membrane comprises multiple through holes. Metal membrane is nickel and coated with super-hydrophobic coating. First volume contains a polymerisable monomer phase (agarose). Second volume contains a liquid which is immiscible with a monomer phase (mineral oil).
EFFECT: disclosed is a method of producing a uniformly sized spheroidal polymer bead having a uniform particle size and narrow particle size distribution using a vibration jet injection using a super-hydrophobic membrane.
