SUBSTANCE: invention relates to versions of a method of producing a hydroxyl compound with 1–3 carbon atoms, as well as to a system for their implementation. One of the versions of the method includes the following stages: a) providing an oxygen-containing feedstock composition containing an oxygen-containing compound with 1–3 carbon atoms in a total concentration of at least 20 wt % from composition of oxygen-containing starting material, and b) providing a chemical reactor comprising i) an inlet zone connected to a ii) a reaction zone containing a heterogeneous hydrogenation catalyst material, connected in fluid communication with iii) outlet zone; and then c) feeding the oxygen-containing feedstock composition of step a) to reactor inlet zone i) of step b) to obtain initial total concentration of oxygen-containing compound with 1–3 carbon atoms of less than 20 wt % from reactor fluid in reaction zone ii) of step b), where change of total concentration of oxygen-containing compound with 1–3 carbon atoms from at least 20 wt % up to less than 20 wt % occurs as a result of dilution by means of reactor fluid medium; and d) reacting in reaction zone ii) an oxygen-containing compound with 1–3 carbon atoms with hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst material to obtain a hydroxy compound with 1–3 carbon atoms; and then e) separating from outlet zone iii) a hydroxyl product composition containing a hydroxy compound with 1–3 carbon atoms.
EFFECT: present invention enables to obtain higher yields and higher selectivity and reduce the amount of undesirable by-products.
