FIELD: measuring equipment.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a means of detecting radioactive substances, particularly to the design of an apparatus for rapid detection of fissile materials (FM) in a metal matrix when utilizing structural materials (SM) of spent fuel assemblies (SFA). Operation of the device is based on using a method of differential neutron attenuation using a combination of helium-3 counters with cadmium filters, pulse 14 MeV of a deuterium-tritium neutron generator and lead protection against gamma-radiation, which serves simultaneously as a neutron multiplier. Device performs preliminary gamma scanning of the receiving container and a movable pedestal.
EFFECT: technical result is possibility of achieving high efficiency of signal recording during determination of low concentrations of fissile materials in spent fuel assemblies due to accurate positioning of SM center of mass between neutron generator and detectors.
