FIELD: medicine; pharmaceuticals.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an implanted composition and a method for use thereof for treating or reducing the risk of cancer. Implanted composition contains a matrix together with copolymer of poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA), polyethylene glycol (PEG) 8000 and paclitaxel, in which the matrix is a nonwoven or woven polymer mesh, or is a biological matrix selected from collagen sheets, bovine pericardium, a dura mater of a human or animal; PLGA has molecular weight ranging from 20000 g/mol to nearly 250000 g/mol and molar ratio lactide/glycolide of about 40:60 of about 60:40; paclitaxel is contained in an amount of about 50 wt % or less of total weight of PLGA and PEG 8000; and PEG 8000 is contained in amount of about 5 wt % to about 35 wt % of total weight of PLGA and paclitaxel.
EFFECT: technical result is an increased therapeutic index of the drug, low systemic release, no undesirable phenomena in postoperative recovery, adherence to the treatment regimen and no washing out, high degree of tolerance, ease of use according to the standard of surgical treatment and easy adaptability to cover a wide range of therapeutic agents and procedures.
