FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to ferrous metallurgy, particularly, to compositions and production of high-magnesia fluxes for converters or arc-furnaces. Proposed flux comprises magnesium, calcium, iron, aluminium and silicon oxides. In compliance with this invention, it includes extra boron and manganese oxides. In compliance with first version, proposed process comprises mixing, annealing and sintering of charge composed by magnesia-bearing materials and alloying additive in rotary furnace, said additive being composed by boron-bearing materials with additive of iron-containing material. In compliance with second version, charge mix consisting of magnesia-bearing materials is annealed and sintered in rotary furnace. Then, alloying additive is added to annealed and sintered charge mix, said additive being composed of boron-containing material with addition of carbon-containing material or without it. It is mixed with binder to pelletise produced mix. These pellets feature reduced slag aggressive behaviour relative to arc furnace lining.
EFFECT: higher output and efficiency, longer life of steel-making equipment.
