FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy, particularly, to fluxes for steel making. Charge contains caustic magnesite (MgO), iron-containing material with calcium-containing material of fraction 5–20 mm, consisting of dolomite and a product for sorting crystalline magnesite containing SiO2 not more than 3 wt. % and MgO not less than 30 wt. %, in ratio of (50–90):(50–10), with the following ratio of components, wt. %: calcium-containing material 45–65, caustic magnesite (MgO) 25–50, iron-containing material 5–10.
EFFECT: invention enables to obtain a flux having high strength of granules, high rate of dissolution in slugs during steel production owing to low content of SiO2 and providing formation of protective slag belt in metallurgical unit, which protects lining against premature wear due to increased content of MgO in flux.
