SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to an aerosol-generating device comprising a heating element for heating an aerosol-generating substrate, a power supply for feeding a heating element, and controller functionally connected to power supply unit, wherein said controller is configured to determine charge level of power supply unit, comparing charge level of power supply unit with predetermined threshold level of charge, sufficient for application of predetermined thermal cycle to heating element for completion of aerosol generation cycle so as to exhaust or substantially exhaust aerosol-forming substrate, and to prevent operation of heating element until, until charge level of charge unit is higher than predetermined threshold level of charge required to complete aerosol generation cycle, in order to exhaust or substantially exhaust aerosol-forming substrate.
