FIELD: medicine; surgery; combustiology.

SUBSTANCE: invention can be used for selecting a therapeutic approach to thermal burn wounds. Based on the lesion morphological zoning, total burn area is selected, where injuries border on intact skin and wound center represented by necrotising tissues: gray fibrin or whitish derma with missing vascular reaction. A wound photograph is taken with resolution of 2.3 pix and a focal distance to object of 40 cm. It is processed using image processing programs by outlining the contour of the center zones and the total wound area. Damage index is calculated as a quotient between area of center and total wound area, expressed in percentage. If index is 12 % or less, an outpatient approach is chosen. If the index of damage is more than 12 %, the patient is placed in a hospital for surgical treatment.

EFFECT: method does not require specialized equipment, it allows improving quality of treatment of patients with burn wounds due to zoning of burn wound.
