FIELD: liquid crystal devices.

SUBSTANCE: switchable window (500) includes electrooptical layer (510) comprising an anisotropic gel of a high-chiral liquid crystal (50) stabilized with a polymer, for example a liquid crystal in a blue phase, enclosed, for example, in a mesogen polymer-containing shell (10) and forming a self-assembled three-dimensional photonic crystal, which retains the ability for electrooptical switching at moderate applied voltage (for example, electric field). Liquid crystal (LC) device can be obtained by means of a polymer system of liquid crystals in a blue phase, having a substantially continuous polymer structural framework (60), surrounding clearly defined discrete bodies of liquid crystal material arranged in a cellular manner. These assembled structures are connected to form matrix.

EFFECT: reduces angular birefringence of systems of high-chiral liquid crystals, which reduces turbidity in applications such as switched windows.
