FIELD: machine building.

SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a method of segmenting surface (5a, 5b) of tire (P) including at least one groove (4). Method comprises steps of: irradiating portion (100) of surface (5a, 5b) of tire (P) by electromagnetic radiation having a wavelength in visible spectrum; obtaining image (100a) of irradiated surface portion (100) and processing image (100a) so as to segment it on regions (101, 102) corresponding to tire areas, which belong or do not belong to said at least one groove (4). Additionally, image processing, (100a) such to segment it, includes steps of: calculating a statistical amount associated with irradiation with electromagnetic radiation for each image region (101, 102) (100a) and determining, belongs or does not belong to image area (101, 102) of said at least one groove (4), according to statistical quantity value. Invention also relates to equipment (1) for segmenting surface (5a, 5b) of tire (P), including at least one groove (4).

EFFECT: technical result is higher efficiency and accuracy of checking tire quality.
