SUBSTANCE: invention relates to food compositions intended for ingestion by animals. Method involves identifying an animal which is obese or overweight, and administering to the animal a food composition in an amount less than the basic required energy for animal's vital activity (MER). Invention also relates to a food composition for preserving lean body weight and stimulating fat loss during weight loss when the food composition is administered to an animal which is obese or overweight. Food composition contains from approximately 30 % to approximately 65 % of protein, from approximately 10 % to approximately 20 % of carbohydrate, and from approximately 10 % to approximately 25 % of fat. Protein and carbohydrate are present at a ratio which ranges from approximately 4:1 to approximately 6:1, which is effective for preserving lean body weight and stimulating fat loss during introduction of the food composition to an animal.
EFFECT: method is proposed to preserve lean body weight and to stimulate fat loss during mass loss.
