SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a device and a method of bending glass sheets, in particular bending by pressing of glass sheets. Device for bending glass sheets comprises: lower mold (1) for bending by pressing with contact surface (2) in form of a frame, upper mold (3) for bending by pressing, located opposite contact surface (2), in which lower mold (1) for pressing by pressing and upper mold (3) for bending by pressing are configured to change shape of glass sheet (I) located between them, by pressing, wherein the side edge (S) of the glass sheet (I) is adjacent to contact surface (2) along contact line (4), wherein the lower surface of the glass sheet (I) never comes into contact with lower mold (1) for bending, wherein during pressing contact line (4) is movable from first contact line (4A) up to pressing line (4B), and contact surface (2) between the first contact line (4A) and pressing line (4B) is convexo-bent.

EFFECT: technical result is providing an improved device for bending by pressing, by means of which strong curvatures of the sheet in the edge area can be realized without the need for more complex bending methods.
