SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of organic chemistry, namely, to a lubricant composition containing at least 90 wt.% lubricating base oil or grease and the compound of Formula I:

wherein R1-R4 and R5-R8 are independently selected from the hydrocarbyl groups, which are linear or branched saturated hydrocarbons containing from 1 to 18 carbon atoms each, and the molybdate anion (Y) is a binuclear sulfur-containing dianion selected from a group consisting of [Mo2S8O2]2 -, [Mo2S9O]2 - and [Mo2S10]2 -, wherein the compound of Formula I is present in an amount sufficient to provide approximately 100-15000 hours/million of Molybdenum. A compound of Formula I is also proposed.
EFFECT: proposed are new compounds that are applicable as an additive to lubricating oils and greases to reduce friction, reduce wear and / or improve scuffing load capacity.
