FIELD: mechanical engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a system and a method for monitoring railway wheels. The system and method for monitoring railway wheels (5) consist in producing images of railway wheels (5) with the aid of stereo chambers (8 and 9) and in constructing three-dimensional and two-dimensional models of the railway wheel (5) with the aid of these images. The two-dimensional model is analyzed (18) concerning the rail wheel profile (5), compared to the two-dimensional model of the ideal wheel and subsequently measured concerning the actual wear of the profile. The three-dimensional model is analyzed (19) concerning the surface of the railway wheel (5), also compared to the three-dimensional model of the ideal wheel and subsequently measured concerning actual surface wear (3).
EFFECT: increased efficiency of the wheel surface verification and no need to check the interaction of the wheel with the rail.
