SUBSTANCE: invention relates to computer engineering for reading information media. Disclosed is a method of authenticating machine-readable luminescent marking having the form of contrasting phosphorescent, fluorescent or combined symbols or images, including illumination by pulsed light marking, recording, processing and identification of marking, wherein at least two wavelengths of the emitted light (λ1 and λ2) and at least two values of the light flux of the emitted light (F1 and F2) are preset; light pulses are illuminated by said wavelengths (λ1 and λ2) with said light flux values (F1 and F2); recording an image formed by excitation of symbol elements or marking images from illumination by light pulses from each of wavelengths (λ1 and λ2) with light flux values (F1 and F2); processing the recorded image, identifying the processed image, verifying its authenticity by comparison with the reference image.

EFFECT: technical result consists in broader functional capabilities of full reading of decoded information in several spectral ranges.
