FIELD: information technology.

SUBSTANCE: optical device for reading information in form of luminescent symbols and images consists of an illuminator with an array of luminescence-exciting light-emitting diodes and an optical system which projects the information to be read onto a scanner sensor, an optoelectronic system consisting of an electronic control system, an optical filter and an objective lens with a light-directing illuminator having an output window, and connected to the housing of the data collecting terminal or scanner through a structural socket and switching connections for controlling the light-emitting diodes of the device, wherein the switching connections between the scanner and the device are optically realised through photodetectors in the housing of the device which receive light pulses of from the scanner and which control the illuminator and a targeting system.

EFFECT: broader functionalities owing to use of an optical device in form of a detachable cap with any model of portable photographic scanner.
