FIELD: medicine; otorhinolaryngology.

SUBSTANCE: changes in the tympanic membrane are detected by performing an otoscopy. In the presence of changes in otoscopy: displacement of the short process of the malleus to the center, the Umbo is shifted to the Annulus fibrocartelagineus fibrous ring in the lower quadrants of the tympanic membrane, while the handle of the malleus is adjacent to the tympanic membrane with its anterior edge. Additionally, audiometry is performed. If a mixed type of hearing loss is detected, Bekhterev's disease is diagnosed. Then, to confirm the diagnosis, the patient is sent for genetic testing for the carrier of the HLA-B27 gene.

EFFECT: method allows reliably detecting Bekhterev's disease at an early stage, choosing preventive measures to prevent disability of patients, choosing right tactics for treating this disease, avoiding complications, improving patient life quality; it does not require costly and technically complex methods of examination and can be used in all age categories of patients.
