SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of electrochemical corrosion protection and is intended to work as part of a cathodic protection system to identify areas of metal overhaul of underground structures, such as pipelines. The device for detecting areas of overprotection of the pipeline metal, containing a reference electrode, a voltmeter and an ammeter, differs in that it additionally contains a remote electrode connected to the pipeline through a shunt and a current regulator, a reference electrode is connected between the shunt and the remote electrode, while the voltmeter is connected to the reference electrode connection circuit, and the ammeter is connected in parallel with the shunt, the outputs of the ammeter and voltmeter are connected to a controller configured to control the current regulator and perform calculations.

EFFECT: ensured safe operational detection of metal over-protection areas.
