FIELD: measurement equipment.
SUBSTANCE: method to measure polarisation potential of an underground metal structure includes the following operations: an auxiliary electrode is connected to the underground metal structure and the input of the voltmeter, the first cycle of polarisation potential measurements is carried out via equal time intervals, following the results of which they assess fluctuation of measurement results depending on time, minimum frequency of the fluctuation spectrum is determined, time of delay is selected, which is equal to duration of the period of minimum frequency of the fluctuation spectrum, the auxiliary electrode is disconnected from the underground metal structure, and upon expiration of time equal to the delay time, the second cycle of polarisation potential measurements is carried out via time intervals, duration of which makes at least the time of delay, and the polarisation potential value is determined by extrapolation of measurement results of the second cycle.
EFFECT: increased accuracy of polarisation potential measurement due to more complete exclusion of effect of an ohmic component, fluctuation and drop of potential during the delay time by repetition of the second cycle of measurements with time delay, increased efficiency due to reduced duration of measurements by means of selection of the optimal measurement mode.
