FIELD: mechanical engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a separating element (100) for separating the first phase of a liquid from the second phase of a liquid in a tubular vessel. Said separating element comprises a floating body (110) made of an elastic material having a circular sealing edge (112) and at least one ballast element (120) fixed on the lower side of the floating body. The density of the ballast element is bigger than the density of the floating body and the total density of the separating element is between the density of the first phase and the density of the second phase of the liquid. In order to ensure that parts of the second phase of the liquid do not penetrate the area above the separating element inside the tubular vessel when said separating element moves into the sealing position and is positioned therein, said invention ensures that he sealing edge of the floating body is formed at a distance (d) which equals to 0.05-4 mm above the centre of gravity (CG) of the whole separating element.
EFFECT: increase in reliability of preventing the parts of the second phase of the liquid from penetrating the area above the separating element inside the tubular vessel when said separating element moves into the sealing position and is positioned therein.
