FIELD: cooling systems.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a cooling device (28) with a variable cooling rate for processing metallic materials and to a method for cooling device operation particularly for cooling steel sheets (22) in plate rolling mills, hot strip mills or heat treatment lines by means of a nozzle cooling device. The cooling device consists of at least two chilled beams (16, 16a, 17, 17a). Both chilled beams are located on the lower side and on the upper side transverse to the direction (21) of movement of the metal sheet (22) and in the middle between the two rollers (12, 13, 14) of the roller table. The cooling device contains a nozzle cooling device, which includes a lot of nozzles (19, 19a) with a solid jet and a lot of nozzles (20) with a solid spray cone, and the nozzles (19, 19a) with a solid jet are arranged symmetrically relative to the nozzles (20) with the solid spray cone.
EFFECT: invention ensures possibility of both minimum and very high cooling rates. It also ensures maximum uniformity of cooling transverse to the direction of strip movement.
