SUBSTANCE: group of inventions, consisting of a water purification method and a water purification plant, relates to the purification of water from trace amounts of organic contaminants, especially in the case of time-limited or spontaneous increases in the concentration of contaminants in the treated water. The method of water purification is carried out by adsorption in a water treatment plant (1), which includes at least one main adsorption device (2) and another peak load adsorption device (3) located upstream of the main adsorption device (2), which is connected when the preset input value of pollution is exceeded. The adsorption devices have a fixed bed of dispersed activated carbon in the free bed. The peak load adsorption device (3) has a smaller fixed bed filter volume (V_SLA) than the main adsorption device (2), with the volume ratio (V_HA) of the fixed bed filter of the main adsorption device (2) to the volume (V_SLA) of the filter in the form of a fixed bed of the peak load adsorption device (3), is at least 1.2:1. The ratio of the residence time of the treated and purified water (A) in the main adsorption device (2) to the residence time of the treated and purified water (A) in the adsorption device (3) peak load is at least 1.2:1.

EFFECT: group of inventions provides increased efficiency of water purification from organic contaminants, prevention of breakthroughs in the event of sudden increases in the concentration of contaminants, and also provides increased service life of the adsorbent.
