FIELD: fire-fighting.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of foam fire extinguishing, namely to operative fire extinguishing in large reservoirs, oil processing plants, loading racks and spills of flammable liquids in open spaces. The apparatus for preparation and supply of foam is comprised of a foam tank with a gas generator, wherein said tank is located inside the water storage container or next to it. The charge of the single-chamber gas generator by changing the burning area provides small gas supply in the first burning mode to eject the foaming agent into the water container and mix it producing foam, and with a large gas intake and pressure in the gas generator in the second mode to supply foam to the tank via two pipelines: the sub-layer extinguishing pipeline into a vertical pipe to the bottom part of the reservoir, and via a separate pipeline to the top part of the reservoir. The method of fire extinguishing in reservoirs consists in installing a stationary or mobile apparatus behind the banking of the reservoir, wherein said apparatus allows for separate storage of water and foaming agent, for preparation and supply of foam using a solid fuel gas generator via a sub-layer extinguishing pipeline into the reservoir with simultaneous supply of foam from above to the burning oil product level. The fire protection system for reservoirs based on the proposed method and apparatus is made in form of two foam flows - into the sub-layer extinguishing pipeline into the bottom part of the reservoir, and into the supply pipeline supplying foam to the top part of the reservoir via a flat jet spraying apparatus.
