FIELD: chemical industry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a polyolefin composition having flame retardant and/or flame retardant properties and is suitable as a flame retardant and/or flame retardant layer of a wire or cable. The polyolefin composition, according to the present invention, contains a polyolefin homo- or copolymer, crushed magnesium hydroxide having a particle size distribution D50 from 1.5 to 5.0 mcm, in an amount from 30 to 65 wt.% Based on the weight of the polyolefin composition and an organosilicon liquid or resin in an amount from 0.1 to 20 wt.% based on the weight of the polyolefin composition. The invention further relates to a wire or cable comprising one or more layers, wherein at least one of the layers is obtained from the polyolefin composition of the present invention. Finally, the present invention further relates to the use of the polyolefin composition of the present invention as a flame retardant layer for a wire or cable.
EFFECT: invention combines excellent flame retardant properties with very good mechanical properties and machinability.
